Restoration of a burnt-out DECCA ISIS control panel

Following a fire in the ship's engine control room, the DECCA ISIS alarm panel was almost completely burnt out. We took on its repair — even though at first replacing the panel with a new one seemed the only option

Scope of works

Detailed examination of every circuit in the panel
Repair of modules that could be restored
Rebuilding from scratch the components that were destroyed beyond repair
Restoring control of alarm sirens, lights and state loggers
Testing communication with engine room equipment

The DECCA system comprises control circuits for numerous modules — alarm sirens, light signalling and alarm state loggers — communicating directly with every piece of equipment operating in the ship's engine room

Through analysis of the electrical circuits we managed to recover every damaged module. Components that were completely burnt out were rebuilt from scratch, based on the ship's documentation and using working modules as a reference

The repair cost turned out to be many times lower than buying a new panel, and the turnaround time far shorter than waiting for a unit ordered from the manufacturer
