Shore-to-ship power supply system
As part of the Swedish "Green Ports" programme, the Port of Ystad authority built infrastructure enabling berthed vessels to be supplied from the national power grid. We were responsible for the most critical part of the system on the ships' side
Scope of works
- Design and implementation of the power-source transfer system
- Automatic synchronisation of the ship's network with the shore network
- A system based on a PLC controller with in-house software
- Installation of protection devices
- Rebuilding of the main switchboard panels
- Connection to the medium-voltage switchboard on board the ship
- Deployed on three Unity Line ferries
The port infrastructure, comprising heavy-duty switchboards, transformer stations and high- and medium-voltage frequency converters, is among the largest systems of its kind operating in ports worldwide
The owner decided to entrust us with this project — the first of its kind undertaken by a Polish company — despite competition from much larger international players; the deciding factors were lower cost, flexibility and experience in developing dedicated solutions
In cooperation with the companies responsible for the other parts of the system — communication with the shore network and the design and certification of the medium-voltage side — we delivered a smoothly operating power-source switching and synchronisation system
